MicroMast - Examination Procedure

  1. When a clinical mastitis is detected, the cow’s milk is sampled aseptically by the milking staff.
  2. The milk sample is cultured on a specially modified culturing dish, preferably as soon as possible after milking. Culturing is done directly on the farm in a small incubator to minimise delays.
  3. Prior to the next milking, and approximately 18–22 (24) hours after sampling (according to the length and interval between milking), the cultivation results are read and the treatment procedure is decided.
  4. Targeted treatment is initiated within 24 hours after the test. The choice of antibiotics follows the principles of rational therapy.
  5. We incubate the inoculated dish in the incubator at 36–37 °C.

More Information

  • All work is done aseptically to avoid contamination of the agar media or the bowl lids.
  • The kit can also preserve the cultures so that further identification and the detection of any antimicrobial susceptibility can be performed in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
  • The MicroMast system reduces the consumption of antibiotics on a farm and thus – thanks to targeted use – increases treatment efficiency.
  • We use data obtained from the culturing examination to analyse which preventive measures and treatment protocols can be updated. The results of those improvements then can verify in the same way.
  • Regular consultation visits ensure maximum effectiveness of diagnostics and preventive measures.
